LAKAY is proud to announce that its director, Pierre Richard Thomas, presented a conference on May 12, as part of the ACFAS symposium entitled "Taking action against racism through the lens of interventions in educational settings", held at the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières, in hybrid mode.
During this presentation, LAKAY shared a community action approach developed in the field, aimed at supporting educational settings in preventing and reducing the effects of racism in schools. The presentation highlighted three complementary levers that structure the organization's interventions: experiential awareness-raising, co-creation with school stakeholders, and transforming practices through mobilization.
Specifically, LAKAY presented its activities with students, including workshops on racism in schools, as well as support and training programs for school staff to strengthen intervention capacity, monitoring, and the creation of safe environments. The organization also emphasized the importance of connecting current issues to socio-historical contexts, particularly through educational conferences.
A highlight of the presentation was the "My Pen Against Racism and Racial Profiling" writing contest, which is being rolled out in high schools throughout the greater Montreal area. This initiative engages students in public speaking, critical thinking, and creative expression, promoting meaningful texts and contributing to building a more inclusive school culture.
