Our programs

LAKAY runs programs that reach both people directly affected by racism and racial profiling, and the institutions whose decisions impact their daily lives. Each program combines support, awareness-raising, and documentation.

FAMILIES Project

Supporting families from the cultural communities of Lanaudière in interaction with youth protection, and raising awareness among intervention teams about intercultural realities.

My pen against racism and racial profiling

An annual writing competition for secondary school students, complete with scholarships, teaching tools for teachers and an awards ceremony.

PIEJ — Youth Employment Integration Project

Support for young people from Black and immigrant communities in Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick towards employment.

Documentation of racial profiling

Research and publication work on racial profiling in Repentigny, conducted with the Profiling Observatory of the University of Montreal.

Black Community Mental Health

Information and referrals to mental health resources tailored to Black people in Lanaudière. LAKAY also maintains a free directory of Black psychologists and service providers, created with the support of the Public Health Agency of Canada, on the project's external webpage: santementale.lakay.quebec ↗ (external site).

Eyes of Justice

An immersive virtual reality game that places the player at the heart of real-life racial profiling situations, to understand biases and develop empathy. Designed with educators and researchers.

Figures in Black History

Twenty-seven portraits of black women and men who have made their mark on the history of Haiti, Africa, Canada and the United States.
