Facilitating Multicultural Support and the Integration of Legal and Educational Links with Society
The FAMILIES project supports families from the cultural communities of Lanaudière whose case is being followed by the Youth Protection Directorate, and raises awareness among intervention teams about intercultural realities.

Why this project?
Two realities that are poorly understood
Mutual misunderstanding can worsen a situation that could have been resolved differently. The FAMILIES project works on both sides of this relationship.
On the family side
A family that recently arrived in Quebec and finds itself in contact with youth protection faces several difficulties at once: a system they do not know, opaque legal vocabulary, sometimes a language that is not their own, and expectations regarding the education of children that do not always correspond to those of their country of origin.
From the speakers' perspective
The professionals involved must assess family situations where the cultural context is sometimes unfamiliar to them. Without common ground, misunderstandings arise on both sides, and a situation that could have been resolved becomes even more complicated.
Two parts
Workshops for parents and for professionals
Workshops for parents: "Educational methods in the Quebec context"«
These meetings explain the Quebec legal framework surrounding children's education, the role and functioning of youth protection, the rights and responsibilities of parents, and the resources to turn to.
The goal is not to judge educational practices, but to give parents the necessary guidance to understand what is being asked of them and to make themselves heard.
Intercultural awareness workshops for stakeholders
These sessions are aimed at professionals in youth protection. They cover migration realities, cultural references in education and discipline, the effects of the language barrier on the assessment of a situation, and biases that may influence a decision.
