OUR STATUS
LAKAY is a non-profit organization (NPO) founded in 2007 and incorporated in Quebec under the legal name Chez Nous Média 2007. The organization is registered with the Quebec Enterprise Registrar under the Quebec business number (NEQ) 1164551286. Our offices are located at 818 Notre-Dame Street, Suite 202, in Repentigny, Lanaudière. The organization does not sell any products or services. All our activities are free and funded by public subsidies, donations and support from partners.
OUR MISSION
To defend and promote the rights and interests of members of cultural communities, particularly in the Lanaudière region, by raising their awareness of issues related to access to services, safety, socioeconomic conditions, and representation. To foster inclusion, tolerance, sharing, and intercultural understanding through unifying activities and programs, and to educate citizens about their rights, obligations, and responsibilities.
OUR STORY
Since its founding in 2007, LAKAY has organized festivals, conferences, election debates, carnivals, and television programs in Repentigny and the Lanaudière region, showcasing the contributions of cultural communities. Over the years, the organization has expanded its work to include advocacy: supporting victims of racial profiling, conducting research, providing rights education, and developing programs for youth and families.

WHAT WE DO
- Accompaniement People who are victims of racial profiling or discrimination: listening, support in the process and help in filing a complaint.
- Documentation and research : report on municipal inertia in the face of racial profiling in Repentigny (2017-2021), produced with the Profiling Observatory of the University of Montreal, and regional survey on security and racism in Lanaudière.
- Rights education : practical guides, articles and conferences on rights during a police stop, at school and before the Human Rights Commission.
- Youth Integrated Youth Employment Project (PIEJ) and writing competition My pen against racism and racial profiling in secondary schools.
- Families : support for families from cultural communities in interaction with youth protection services.
- Intercultural rapprochement : Repentigny World Carnival, Black History Month, days of solidarity with the Atikamekw Nation of Manawan.

GOVERNANCE
LAKAY is administered by a volunteer board of directors elected by the members, to which the general management reports. The team consists of approximately six paid staff members, supported by interns and over 100 volunteers.
