Writing competition:  My pen against racism and profiling 2023

Lakay is organizing a writing contest for high school students in the Lanaudière region. The contest encourages students in grades 7 and 8 to explore issues of racism, immigration, social cohesion, and identity through writing and art. We expect them to reflect and share their perspectives, commitments, or indignation with others, while showcasing their artistic talent and literary skills. The writing contest aims to encourage students to develop critical thinking skills and raise awareness about the racism and discrimination that poison public spaces and human relationships.

METHODS AND NATURE OF PRODUCTIONS

The competition is open to all secondary school students. To ensure fairness, students in the first and second cycles will compete against each other. Students must submit a written piece in various formats (poem, slam poetry, short story, argumentative essay, etc.) with a maximum length of two pages.
The texts will be evaluated on their adherence to the theme, the quality of the writing, their creativity, and their imagination. They can be submitted in teams of two or individually; the choice is up to the students. Several candidates may be selected per class and per grade level.

JURY AND PRIZES

Students have until February 3, 2023, to submit their texts. All texts submitted during this period will be sent to an external jury who will deliberate and select the best entries. The chosen candidates will be invited to an awards ceremony to be held on February 25, 2023.
