Lakay welcomes the Human Rights Tribunal's ruling
Repentigny, July 28, 2022.- Today, Lakay welcomes the judgment of the Human Rights Tribunal which recognizes that François Ducas was a victim of racial profiling by the police officers of the City of Repentigny.
Through this judgment, which awards $8,000 in moral damages to the plaintiff, who comes from the Black communities, "the Court sends a strong message against racial profiling in Repentigny," reacted Pierre Richard Thomas.
«"A page is turning in Repentigny," said the president of the organization that promotes Black rights, inclusion and living together.
The organization reiterates its support for victims of racial profiling and encourages the denunciation of all forms of racism in the community.
Lakay took the opportunity to commend the City for not appealing the judge's decision. In conclusion, the organization called on the City and the Police Service to implement concrete measures to combat the systemic racial profiling practiced in Repentigny.
Discussion on police violence and mental health issues
This open discussion follows the tragic death of Jean René Junior Olivier, a Black man with mental health issues, who was killed by Repentigny police two years ago. Our goal is to collectively reflect on the problems of police violence against Black people with mental health issues and to propose solutions to improve law enforcement response in such situations.

Repentigny, October 2, 2023 – The Repentigny Recreation Centre is preparing to resonate with the rhythm of cultural diversity during the 2nd edition of the Intercultural Sharing and Exchange Day, organized by the LAKAY organization. This event, open to all, promises a day rich in discovery, entertainment, and celebration of the cultural plurality that makes our community proud.
The event, which was a resounding success in its first edition, returns this year even bigger, with a variety of activities to suit all tastes. Visitors will have the chance to explore more than 20 booths featuring local artisans, offering a diverse range of unique handcrafted products, from handmade jewelry to one-of-a-kind artistic creations.
Dance and music enthusiasts will also have the opportunity to express themselves. Dance workshops will showcase traditional dances from different cultures, allowing participants to discover new rhythms and movements. Music lovers can enjoy a variety of musical performances throughout the day, featuring talented local artists.
For those who love creativity, painting workshops will be offered, giving participants the opportunity to express their artistic talent while discovering new painting techniques. In addition, a domino tournament promises a dose of excitement and friendly competition.
